The former Kyoto Prize laureates are selected as Person of Cultural Merits.

The 2016 Kyoto Prize laureate in Advanced Technology, Dr. Takeo Kanade, Roboticist; the 2011 Kyoto Prize laureate in Arts and Philosophy, Tamasaburo Bando V, Kabuki Actor were accredited as Person of Cultural Merits. Dr. Shun-ichi Amari, who has assumed the position as Director of the Inamori Foundation for a long time, was awarded the Order of Culture.
